What is the Dr and Mrs. J Steven Faulds Memorial Fund?
The family and friends of Dr J. Steven and Mrs May Faulds have created a fund in their memory to work with communities that could help people access affordable self-build housing plots on Scottish Islands and potentially across rural Scotland.
How does the Fund work?
Communities Housing Trust (CHT) is administering the fund which will enable suitable land to be identified and purchased. The land will be developed with utility connections and vehicle access, to then be sold as individual, discounted self-build plots. A Rural Housing Burden will protect any discounts offered. This revolving fund will allow CHT to use the funding again and again to help new communities and following sale of the discounted plots, the fund will be replenished. Community landowners or self-build groups can get in touch with CHT to find out if their project is suitable. [email protected]
Who is Eligible to Apply for a Discounted Plot?
Communities wishing to provide opportunities for locals or to attract new families should speak to CHT about their plans as the scheme was devised with that in mind and CHT are happy to look at how this fund can complement other tenures being planned in your areas.
If you wish to build a home but can't afford to purchase a house plot on the open market, you may be eligible to apply but must be able to demonstrate that you have:
Before fully applying, applicants must discuss the desire to build a home with an independent mortgage advisor. This is to ensure that they can secure a mortgage provider for a completed project that was self-built.
